Your comments: You don't judge Kobe bryant's clutch shooting by stats. Next to Michael Jordan & Robert Horry, Kobe has been the best clutch shooters in the NBA. And you compare him to Jason Terry? Come on!!! I like Jason Terry a lot but i want Kobe shooting the last shot to win a game before Terry any day. Kobe has been Ice-cold in Sac-town, San Antone, New Jersey, Philly and that's just the finals and playoffs arenas. And let's not talk about hitting the game winning shot against Denver twice and once while on trail for Rape. Jason Terry just started to find himself in this league. I remember when he was slumming in Atlanta and didn't even have a chance to hit a game winner. So enough with compairing those two. You should be kicked off this site for even saying Kobe and Jason Terry in the same sentence. You sound as stupid as Sir Charles Barkley when he starts bashing Kobe in-reguards to him not passing the ball to his teammates when MJ did the same thing. Who played with Michael before Pippen & Paxson & Grant got there besides Orlando Woolridge??? I'll tell you who: Billy Mckinney, Gene Banks, Quintin Dailey, Charles Oakley , Dave Corzine, Jawann Oldham, Steve Johnson, Sidney Green, rod Higgins , Kyle Macy, Mike Smrek,Aubrey Sherrod , Adrian Branch and David Greenwood. Yea i know...Who??? But Charles Bark forgot when Michael went for 63 points in the Boston Garden in the playoffs and still lost 135-131. Yea, i am sure David Greenwood could have hit a couple of shots over Larry Bird or even Kevin Mchale right. MJ went for 63 because just like Kobe he does not have anyone that can hit a shot on a consistent basis. And don't start on Lamar Odom!!! Talk to me when you and charles get your Kobe facts Straight.

Umm, why shouldn't we use stats to measure clutch shooting? Yeah, Kobe's made some clutch shots in his career. Maybe he's not as good now. Maybe through selective memory, we remember those amazing plays, but forget clutch misses. The stats in this case tell us what happens when a guy takes a shot in a certain situation. Why shouldn't we use that information?

this guy just proves kenny and charles' point. not only does detroit have the type of big men that are quick and defensively sound enough to switch out on a pick and roll, they waited until the end of the game to switch their strat. 3+ quarters of not switching, then hit them with it in the last 8 minutes. it's an adjustment, and phoenix could not do anything to counter it. tell me, would you rather have ben/rasheed wallace switching on nash, or nowitzki/damp/diop. there's not even a comparison. detroit has players committed to defense, while dallas is a team of offensive jump shooters trying to adjust to a defensive oriented coach. the comparisons are just not valid.

Stats are an extremely relevant way to analyze a basketball game....but they are far from dispositive....you have to look to the many factors that drive the stats...intangible things (like pressure, high stakes, emotions) that experienced NBA vets can grasp and internet bloggers (who want to claim an understanding of a game they could never execute) will never have the ability to comprehend...also stats can always be befuddled with more stats...for instance the Kobe clutch thing...how many more shots did he take than Terry in the clutch?...how many times was he double teamed?...how often was he doing it in a meaningful game?..against the other teams best defender?...Face facts...Kenny and Charles can talk because they played the game...and internet bloggers like myself just get to sit back and wish we could....

Kevin Broom and JelyYour points are well taken. However, Yea stats do matter but not in this case. Michael Jordan, which non-of you have mention yet??? He missed more than he has made. He even said as much in one of his Commercials. Stop it with the Jason Terry thing. I thought i was blogging with People who know the NBA not Mav Fans who can't see that Kobe is a better Player, Shooter and clutch shooter than Jason Terry. If you can't admit that than there is no need for you to bring down Mr.Cuban Blog Site with this B.S. Yea Rorlando Blackmon has a better jump shot than Michael Jordan but he's not a better clutch shooter than M.J.!!! Dirk Nowitzki is a better Jump shooter than Kobe but Kobe is a better clutch shooter Period!!!And in Essence that is what your saying and that is not true. And as far as Kenny & Charles talkin, yes they can talk but that does not mean their right. On this Particular matter they are wrong. Especailly, when Hakeem,Horry and Sam Cassell took the clutch shots for Houston instead of Kenny by the way. Lastly, I guest Jason Terry is a better Clutch shooter than Reggie Miller by Stats Right???You guys are a Joke and i will not talk basketball with you anymore. JB

I know I'm coming to this late, but.... I think Kenny Smith at least is able to offer something of value when he's not trying to plain straight man to the enlarged idiot next to him. Barkley? My God, when will he make an original commment, and stop retreading press clippings from 4 years ago? Think of some other memorable scoring accomplishments over the years. The recurring theme is that the scorer is always praised, while the opposing team is pretty much pushed aside. Barkley cannot let it go. Instead of focusing on the phenomenonal talent of Bryant (pains me to say that), Barkley takes another chance to criticize Dallas. The next game, after playing Sacramento, off the idiot goes again. Before the post game, I predicted to my wife that Barkley would slam the Mavericks for the Lakers game. Sure enough, like a trained obese puppy, he performed on cue. So, 2 nights later, he criticizes the Mavs for Bryants outburst, and, if memory serves me correctly, Dallas had just beaten Sacramento by 10 points. Can I please have a job as an expert analyst. I'm not as thin as I was in my younger days, I'm a quintessential smartass, and I've never won an NBA championship. I'm perfectly qualified for TNT's crew. On second thought, I probably overqualified, because I have this thing about thinking for myself

Dear Mark,I'm a huge Mav's Fan, but I'm also realistic with my expectations. In all honesty, I did not expect to keep pace with other teams in the Western Conference after some of the early off-season moves, though I've been very impressed with the increased emphasis on defense and less of a push for the 3 pt shot. I truly like what is happening with the team and the fact that Barkley and Kenny Smith continue to bash on the Mavericks, speaks to their inability to recognize the progress that Avery's made with the team. To listen to Charles and Kenny speak about the Mavericks, you'd think every team in the NBA would be licking their chops at the opportunity to feast on their so called horribly soft defense. My question to Charles and Kenny would be.....if the Mav's are so horribly soft on defense, then why is the NBA's record against the Mav's a miserable 7 wins and 21 losses? So....Dear Charles and Kenny, "How does your NBA only manage a winning percentage of 25% (as of 12-26-05) against your idea of a horribly soft defense?" Personally, I'm quite pleased with the efforts to improve on defense...defending the rim a little better, cutting off more of the passing lanes to the cutters, defending players without the ball including the point position, improvement in blocked shots, and better rebounding....to name a few. Good luck this year Mavs....remembering much of good luck is a product of hard work. Go Mavs!David Laffiteau

Often I hear Barkley and Kenny call Mavs a soft team or call Dirk a marshmello. Just because they don't make cheap shots on their opponents?! That's just stupid! Although I did agree with Barkley for once; he made a comment on how Mavs should play againt Kobe Bryant after he "accidently" on purposely hit Dirk (come on! we all saw the reply on what "really" happened). Barkley does say something wisely every once in a bluemoon.LOVE THE MAVS!!!!!

I hate to break it to you but, the FACT is, CB and Kenny were correct in so much as highlighting the Mavs inability to play shut-down defense. Don't hate the messenger, hate the losses. They said what other teams already know. The Mavs are not built to play that type of defense. Don't Hate.......Thanks,
