Questions I would ask and blogging the finals.

these are days when you wish cloning was legal and possible. Whether in person , phone or email, the questions asked leading up to the finals are the same over and over again. A Stepford Mark would be highly desirable right about now.

To show everyone the depth of my reporting instincts, Im going to offer the questions I would offer the person who is probably taking the biggest onslaught of media, Shaq.

Here are the questions I want answers to from Shaquille:

1. Shaq – You have several young children. Which Wiggles song is your favorite ? Which do you like the least ?
2. How many times have you had to watch Ice Age and did you take your kids to see Ice Age 2 ?
3. Are your kids so big they are confused with kids twice their age ?
4. Have you ever been contacted to turn Kazaam into an off Broadway musical ? Has anyone sampled Shaq Fu in a hit song yet ?
5. Will you admit in public that you have hummed Barney’s “I Love You” song to yourself in a game ?

I could go on, but Ive shown off enough🙂

And as far as blogging the finals. Im deciding if blogging at half time from the home games is a good idea or not…

And the big question is, where are you going to watch the game this Thursday and with who ??

  1. I was just a teenager when we lost the Western Conference Finals to the Lakers, but I was still disappointed! I am glad that Rolando gets to share in the joy of the Mavericks finally winning the Western Conference and ULTIMATELY the NBA CHAMPIONSHIP!

  2. They look good. My kids have Wade shoes (we found a great bargain). Shaq shoes are cheaper than Wades and look pretty good and they hum the theme song from Barney. Now that’s a frugal bargain.

  8. I watched the game right here at home in okie land with my kids. they are hooked on watching me go nuts and sometimes wonder if their dad (me) is mark cuban. I have a 13 year old son that is a spurs fan (damm, where did i go wrong). I have an 11 year old boy that is a suns fan for the Steve Nash factor (I can understand that). I have a 14 year old son that will watch some but has to have his own domain due to being an alien, oops, i mean teenager. But i have this 8 year old princess that does not understan now like sports but will watch with me on occasion who has become absolutely addicted to maverick games. So I watch all maverick games with her.

All my kids do have a belief that if there were a time machine and Dirk traveled back to the 60’s, he looks like he could of been a Beatle

  9. The “Eagle Rock” has to be my favorite Wiggles song but I usually find myself humming “whoop-de-doo”.

If they were shooting over 70% and we still battled our way back- that’s pretty good. Especially when Dirk & Josh both had an off night. I’m so proud of them!! GO MAVS!!!

  10. Hey now… your team is a good team, and yall are probably going to win.

Now.. I bet 100 bucks on the heat just because I don’t like the mavs.

I gotta admit though, your tactics are smart businesswise.

I don’t know what most people think about you, but all I can say is, some think you are stupid, outspoken, and do some crazy things.

What I think actually is, the acts you put on, sometimes gets you fined, sometimes gets you negative feedback, but from a business point of view, it also gets you fame and attention, which is great businesswise.

All I can say is, your actions has the refs, the crowd, and even people who are unaware of it… leaning on your side.

Being one of the most well known owner of a franchise, I would say congradulations.

Although I am hoping for the heat win, I don’t think they’re gonna do it because of their sub par free throw shooting. But hey I don’t like the heat either, but it’s always nice to see the loud mouthed guy and his barking german dog fall.

We, here, believe that Dirk, Josh and the rest of the boys can bring home the bacon. Kudos to Avery for the remarkable transformation of this team. Kudos to you too for staying beside your team and firing them up during games.

i love your blog, i love your energy, i love that you’re not a normal owner with too much money, i love that everyone hates you for stating your opinon, i love that you actually state your opinion no matter who agrees or disagrees or how much you get fined, i love that your heart is into your team and your city, and i, of course, love your team and all the guys in it.!

It’d be interesting if you blogged what a “typical” day for an untypical time is for the team. They’ve never done this before, but it’d be interesting to know if they practice all day or for an hour or not at all and rest up the day before a game. What is their day like?

    Just call me nosey.

Would love to be in Dallas for the festivities. I live in Indianapolis.

  33. Mark, I’m gonna have to say that you shouldn’t blog during half time. I think you know and I know, along with many Mavericks fans, that you can’t tell the outcome of a game after the first half. The game can completely change after the first, which will make what you have just blogged about look ridiculous. Just my $0.02.

This has been a long time coming and I’m going to relish in screaming at the TV and doing my stupid dances and supersticious movements for every big Dirk play. I’ll be hexing (it really works, in my mind) Shaq and D-Wade with my magical hex-x. I’ll be jamming the Ben Dog and Dust hits and the place will be decorated with Mavs gear. I’ll have several jerseys, warm up shirts, t-shirts, shooting shirts, etc… in case something isn’t looking right. I can put on another and bring luck to the Mavs. The REAL MVP is still playing!!!!!!!!!!

  42. Mark,

I am a fan of the Mavs because of YOU; not being a huge fan of basketball in the first place, but excited to see ‘my’ team in the finals.

Please blog on! Whenever you want to. I will be checking at half-time, however, in hopes of a comment or two at least!

I will be watching the game with my husband, dogs, and cats, in bed, on the NBA website as we do not have TV. So we will be watching the play by play in text mode.

  44. Mark,

Firstly and most important, a huge congratulations to you, the players, the coaches, the assistants, to everyone in the Maverick’s offices, the faithful fans and everyone even remotely involved in the organisation, who are finally seeing their team in the NBA finals after all these years.

As an Australian Mavervicks fan, living in Sacramento, it has been a sensational year.

Firstly, I will be watching the game tonight, from my home, with my wife (a converted Kings fan, yes!) and chatting via yahoo messenger to some friends around the country.

Please Mark, please blog at half time.

I know the atmosphere will be… well, crushing, but for those who cannot be there, win or lose, it will help us to put ourselves in the action, just that little bit more.

I have no idea where I’ll be watching the games since both national TV and cable will be showing them dubbed here! There’s nothing worse than hearing two languages at the same time and not being to understand half of what they say because of this!

As for the mvas. I am sorry to say but, as a miami fan i am rooting for my boys. I live in miami and people are going crazy here. It is so good to see two even teams going to the finals. It just makes you more of a fan, cause this series is like a box of chocolate…you never know what you are going to get.

Success and congrats to you and wife.

  50. Thank God the Finals are on network TV…my lungs probably couldn’t take another series on TNT. Sports bars do not cater to non-smokers.
I’ll be at home tonight, instead of at Fox & Hound, watching the game with my wife and little boy.
I know I’m in a small minority (people without cable) but doesn’t it make more sense to put the playoff games on regular TV, so that anyone that wants to watch, has the option?
I understand there is money to be made signing TV contracts with cable companies, but for exposure purposes, nothing beats free TV.
Mark, any chance you can devise a way to get the Mavs games broadcasted next season online? Talk about exposure possibilites!
The whole cable thing won’t be a problem for me next year, I’ve learned my lesson and I’m getting cable, but I can imagine there are quite a few people out there without cable that would like to watch the Mavs play.
I am one of “those people” right now and can say the way things are set up stinks.
On a different note, I was there when ya’ll flew in to Love Field…I have some great video of the experience.
For those who didn’t go, or see the news footage…IT WAS AMAZING!
I was actually quite proud of Dallas and Mavs fans…it was cool to have that many people, rowdy people for that matter (aka intoxicated), gathered for hours in a confined space with no fights or problems occuring.
    Way to go Mavs fans!

  51. I moved back here in 1996 and wanted tickets to the Mavs. When you (Mark) bought the team, and I could see your excitement and boyishness I made a mad dash and got season tickets. I knew if anyone could do it, it would be YOU. There has been nothing but joy and excitement for me and my daughters, grandsons and relatives who I fly in here from RI. To those constant critics WHO THOUGHT WE CAN’T PLAY DEFENSE OR WIN ANY TITLE, we have fans in the East too…I make sure there are Mavs jerseys floating all over RI. So, from a Grammy in Sec. 113, GO MAVS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  52. I have been a HEAT fan since 1988. I am sure you Maverick fans are excited about being in the finals. Before all the “bs” gets started, I wanted to wish all you luck. I was wondering how long you feel it will take for Mark Cuban to start getting in the Refs ear about something he has no control over in this series. Do you think he can just “let them play”?

  53. I work second shift so I will unfotunately be at work for game 1. I was allowed to go home early for Mavs/Suns game 4 and saw the worst game of the entire season so I will not be requesting to go home early for game1 as to not jinx the team.
My son was your hot dogs and hoops, hotdogging competition winner on april 8, so we will have season tickets for next year which is awesome. We look forward to having first opp for playoff tickets next year and want to see an exciting repeat. WE ARE TALKING DYNASTY BABY!!!!!!!!!!
As I have learned from breaking tradition with leaving work early, If you haven’t blogged at halftime before, don’t start now. Whatever has worked before, keep doing it.
Just a personal note to you Mark and your fantastic organization. The Mavs have single-handedly made this the best year of my young man’s and my life and for that I am truly grateful. Thanks for the memories and we look forward with much anticipation at being your guests for next year. Special thanks to Jeremy Armstrong for the Mavs/Spurs game 3 tickets and our bags are packed and ready for the call to the Finals.
As far as the Heat goes….Shaq is overrated and his shoes are the crappiest athletic gear in the shoestore and my son wouldn’t be caught dead on the court in a pair of them, but we are rowdy loud and proud in Ft Smith Arkansas in our Mavs gear.
    GO MAVS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  54. Just thought I’d share this with you, The Mavs and all the fans, It’s awesome!!! First, let me tell you that I live in San Antonio and that my girlfriend and I are huge Mavs Fans. So living in SA I’m sure you realize the crap we get from the infinite #’s of Spurs groupies here. But, on June 1st right about the time the Mavs took off and destroyed the Suns in game 5 my daughter was born. At 9:48 to be exact. The game was on in the delivery room and my girl was watching as she was giving birth and, bitching that we were only leading by a very small margin. So, I told her the Mavs weren’t gonna let loose till you have this baby so get that done then we’ll worry about our Mavs. So like I said at 9:48 p.m. or a few minutes into the 4th quarter Avery Ellen Haws was born. Avery was the only name that both she and I could agree on. So I made a deal with her. I told her at 2-1 Mavs in the Spurs series that if the Mavs held on and beat the Spurs she could name her Avery. The rest is History!!! I’m so excited right now with the birth of my 2nd daughter and the Mavs 1st of what should be many trips to the NBA finals life is GREAT!!! I hope everyone enjoys this story as much as I love telling it!!! So from your Mavericks fans stuck in SA we all say put the Heat on Ice tonite GO MAVS!!!

  59. GO MAVS!!

I’m a huge Dallas fan in the Philippines and I’m very excited that the Mavs are in the finals.

I’ll be watching at home at around 9AM in the morning (local time). I’m very excited because finally, FINALLY, a team that I like has made it to the finals again (the last time I woke up early to watch the finals was when I was rooting for MJ’s Bulls back in the 90’s).

By the way, the Mavs have a huge following here in this country. In case you haven’t noticed, I’m the third Filipino to blog his support on this page.

As for blogging at half-time, I say go right ahead!! Blog away!! Although personally I can’t imagine how you’d compose your thoughts, all the excitement might prove to be too much of a distraction.

I will be watching the Mavs in the NBA Finals at home in my lucky chair with my wife and son, that way I will be close to my defibrillator, unless my dad comes through with some tickets. As for your questions to Shaq you should get Corby “The Snake” Davidson from the Ticket to ask them to Shaq. I am sure you are familiar with their relationship. I want to thank you for not only buying the team and turning them into winners etc. etc. but also for getting rid of that stupid freaking logo with the Cowboy hat.

Your guys were the the class of the Western Confrence this season and it is good to see a person passionate about his investment in the manner in which you are. Easily in the top 5 owners in all of sports. Good luck against the Heat. They put it on my favorite squad, the Pistons.

On another note, You helped me in a college project a few years back and I should probably say thanks for that too! That was my last class I needed to graduate and your info on HDTV was a help. I did graduate as well!

  72. I’m not saying that these two cities are unblemished paradises. Both have drawbacks: Miami is vulnerable to hurricanes, whereas Dallas is completely surrounded by Texas. But overall, they are fine places, and it’s a shame that the NBA championship can’t be awarded to both the Miami Heat and the Dallas Cows.

But it can’t. One team (Miami) must win

    Comment by Ihatedallas -

  73. Billionaire owners: Each team has one. The Heat’s billionaire is Micky Arison, a quiet, dignified man who pretty much stays out of the limelight, preferring to let the actual basketball players get the attention. The Cows’ billionaire is Mark Cuban, who takes a somewhat different approach, which is to do everything possible to make sure that nobody ever, for one second, forgets that he is a billionaire NBA owner.

  75. Well, not easy to watch the finals from Germany. No Pay TV equals (almost) no finals… But (!), we’re even more in pleasant anticipation of the World Cup – so go Germany, go Mavs!

  76. Mark, I suggest just have someone record what you have to say, or maybe take your video, and then have him post on your blog on your behalf. Then go run to the Mavs and staff, and support them.

Pom of #170, have a good time with your officemates! I took a leave instead hehe!

Erwin Cruise my friend, I know you will root with me for Mavs because you love Keith Van Horn. Sorry though that your Phoenix lost =P

Melvin I know you dont know how to read blogs because you are a big Barkley fan. Snicker!

Noel, I havent seen you for a long time my friend, but this post is for you after all those years of your bragging about the Spurs. Flex!

To my wife, I love you! Wink wink!

    Go Mavs!

Section 101 ROW N. Been cheering them on all
season. I hope that the play off crowd is as
loud rowdy and PROUD as the regular season fans.
Leave the business suits home and wear your MAVS gear. SO PROUD OF MY TEAM

  80. NBA games are only available on pay tv in Germany. And pay tv is really not working here, it’s not very big. And I can’t understand why the sports bars over here don’t want to open at 4am in the morning to let us watch the games:/
I know the NBA gets good money from our only pay tv station, but don’t you think you would earn more money in the long run if basketball was available on free tv and reaching millions of people instead of a few hundred thousands? NBA basketball is big in Germany, not only because of Dirk, but pay tv just isn’t. It’s a shame. I bet the Mavs could make a lot more money here in Germany.
So I’ll be sleeping when Dirk gets his first final win, or maybe I’ll just turn on that P2P software streaming some chinese NBA broadcast via Internet, legal or not.

  84. Hi Mark,

Well watching game from the Office pantry with legions of NBA fans all the way from Manila, Philippnes! Would like to take this chance to congratulate you (I know you are 4 wins away from winning it all but your team is worth congratulating anyways :))My hats off also to your franchise and i can say that you have molded this team into a class act that nobody expected in the first place🙂

Blogging during halftime would be a great idea. Been a reader of your blog and a real time insighter straight from the MAN would not hurt that much i guess🙂 At least we willbe treated into something special i’d say🙂

  85. Mark,

Even though blogging at half-time looks nice I think you shouldn’t bother doing it.
Be with the team, support them and forget about entertaining the crowd with your thoughts “on-line”. Use voice recorder instedad – if you reall have to and ask your assistant to type it after the game.
Enjoy the Finals while you can – who knows what will happen next year. Looks like ther is a correlation between not changing the team and visit to Finals…

  91. Half time blogs are a great idea!! The emotion and reactions/observations in the heat of the moment would be a good read…

if it was my choice I would be watching the game with Eric Musselman and my neighbor Mike Bibby and grillin them on their observations and plans for the coming year. The Kings and Mavs in competitive series were always fun to watch even when both came up short of the Title.

Good luck Mavs… but I REALLY wish it were the Kings v. Heat!!

    Comment by CarmichaelKeith -

  92. There will be no Barney humming, but I’ll definitely be watching the game at home with my wife and 20 month old daughter who’s already mastered several important phrases like “Watchin’ basketball”,”Go Mavs!” and “Go Dirk!”.

    Comment by Jason Gilman -

  93. Michele asked:
“Although I have one question… Why is it when I see pics of Dirk associated with a story that it is always “Dirk Nowitzki of Germany” instead of “Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks”????? What other international player has this association made between them and their native country? I don’t ever recall seeing Akeem Olajuwon of Nigeria or Pau Gasol of Spain. Maybe some of the media types can answer that one.”

I think that started a few years back when Dalls had the novelty of being a really international team. You had …
    -Dirk from Deutschland
-Wang from China (remember every three was dialed in from China?)
-Nash from Canada (although born in S. Africa)
    -Najera from Mexico

Dirk is the only one of those guys left, so it could be a hold over from that. However, there are a few other guys who seem to be in the same boat, for better or for worse. I think in particular of Yao Ming, forever Yao Ming from China.

On a side note, I’ve got a friend in Germany who’s a coach and who gets to hang out with Dirk each summer and says he’s just a great guy on top of his basketball prowess. All all around asset to the Mavs.

He may not have the pizazz or flash to get MVP, but you never know. He’s definitely the MVP of the team that’s favored to win the title, so that’s pretty dern good.

I’d be willing a lot of MVPs would trade that trophy for a title. Let’s hope Dirk gets both.

P.S. I guess Darin from Phoenix won’t be watching any basketball on Thursday, but just reruns of the bachelor! Sounds like sour grapes.

You should careful yourself with the fact that many other elements affect the final result of all these games. Also, there are two types of people in the world, those who played sports at the competitive level and those who look at stats to understand the game.

  118. Personally, I think it would be greatness if you blog during half-times at home games. Much to my husband’s chagrin I love reading your blog – I may not always understand all of your topics, but I like to think that I am somewhat more intelligent just because I do read your blog🙂

Where will I be watching the game Thursday? At home with my son… my husband has to work nights😦 (hopefully he’ll be home by half time). Of course we will be watching on ABC in HD (which actually makes it okay to be stuck at home watching!)

I will be wearing all of my Mavs gear, cheering loud and proud for my Mavs to win! I was just a teenager when we lost the Western Conference Finals to the Lakers, but I was still disappointed! I am glad that Rolando gets to share in the joy of the Mavericks finally winning the Western Conference and ULTIMATELY the NBA CHAMPIONSHIP!

So, I’m going to be watching it on our new plasma TV (which was bought just to celebrate the MAVS in the Western Conference Finals). 128. As will be the rest of us bummed out Pistons fans, I will be sitting in front of the box cheering wildly for your Mavs. Actually they are the team I picked at the start to want to face Detroit, but since we collapsed I feel Dallas deserves it. You and your city have done a great job in building a team from scratch and we up here in Michigan truly appreciate that. P.S. thanks for calling back to WRIF/ Drew & Mike. Listened to your conversation and you are really a great fan of the game! Go Mavericks…extinguish the heat.

    Comment by Chris Kutz -

  129. Games 1-4 will all be Maverick wins. I’ll be glued to the set at home, with my wife, and wearing my lucky sweater that I wore when I drove out to Phoenix from San Diego for game 2 last year (thanks for taking the time to
    say “hi”)

If (and only if) there is a Game 5 I’ll be on a 24 hour flight to the Canary Islands off the coast of Morocco, so the Mavs had better not win it in 5 games!!!

If (by some weird process) there is a game 6 and game 7, then the games start at 1:00 AM on the Islands. So please, Mavs, make it a sweep! Then I can celebrate on my vacation.

I made detailed analysis here for the series:
    http://www.mavtalk.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=005534

    Key facts:
    Here is how it looks:
    36 NBA Finals since 1970

3 times the teams that made the finals had the same records.

    1) The team that had more regular season wins won the series: 22 of 33 times, or 66.7%

    2) Throwing out the 5 times there was a 1 game difference in regular season wins: Team w/more wins won 20 of 28 times, or 71.4%

    3) Throwing out the 5 times there was a 2 game difference in regular season wins: Team w/more wins won 20 of 26 times, or 76.9%

    4) Throwing out the 5 times there was a 3 game difference in regular season wins: Team w/more wins won 19 of 22 times, or 86.3%

We all know Dallas had 8 more regular season wins. According to history, this should be a Maverick demolition!

  131. I wouldn’t mind hearing the answer to some of those questions myself!

Since I’d have to sell my kidney to get tickets to any of the finals games…(I can’t decide if I would have been better off not putting myself into debt by going to 9 games this year and just saving all that money for playoff tickets. But then, I wouldn’t have gotten to see some amazing regular season games!) … I will be watching the game at home with my crazy family. We get pretty wild and rowdy, and although I’d rather be AT the game… I guess they are a good second best.

    Comment by Jamie -

  132. I beieve blogging at half time will be good…But I am reading it after the game.

I would have to agree that Shaq was a bit of a disapointment last night. I watched it this morning with my son (tivo) and told him, “look, this is an amazing ball player…you want to understand how he got to where he is). Well, Shaq sounded like he was very insecure, affraid and lonely. He was so arrogant, talking about himself like he had something to prove. Shaq was somewhat out of touch in the interview with S. A. Smith. Boy, isn’t life tough. I don’t know how these guys make it in the NBA.

    Questions for Shaq’s interview:

1- how did you rebound from your most dissapointing moment in life, and which one was it?
2- I am a high school player…who should I follow the steps of in the NBA, and why?
3- D. Wade is humble, according to you, and that is why you hand it over to him. Does it mean he is submissive to your will?
4- How did you feel after Wallace blockshot in front of millions of viewers. not allowed to excuse with the “it was fault” BS? We want to know how you felt.
5- Are you affraid your kids wont be successful cause they will be overshadowed by your image? What are you and your wife doing to prevent that?
6- what do you think when you see Mark Cuban hugging players and sitting on the bench? Do you think he is being sincere or driving another marketing effort?
7- What was the most valuable lesson you learned in getting your MBA? How you plan to apply that lesson?
8- how much time pat riley spend with his kid?
9- who is your role model aside from your dad and why?

    Comment by Marcos Santos -

We were at the Love Field welcome home Saturday night/Sunday morning and the “fly-by” was absolutely amazing!! Go MAVS!! Show the world that the MAVS are the best basketball team in the NBA. Enough about Shaq and Duncan….

    Comment by Anne -

  134. No No NO…

Please do not blog during the game. In fact, I’d personally prefer it if you didn’t blog about anything basketball related until Avery Johnson is lifting the championship trophy above his head.

Let the series speak for itself, for once step back, remove yourself from the story, and just let it be about the players. Don’t insult the city of Miami, don’t encourage the Dallas fans to follow in your juvenile footsteps as you did by mocking Michael Finley. When all eyes are on Dallas, please make us look like the great city we are. Just realize that this isn’t about you, it’s about the players on the court. Anything you blog during the game(or even during the series), is irrelevant and unecessary. Just let them play, and wait until Avery has that trophy before you throw in your two cents.

(and leave the ‘funny’ questions to the guys on the Ticket)

I am a former Dallas resident (28 years) and Mavs fan. I would love to watch Dallas win their first NBA Championship. Unfortunately, I live in London and I am unable to watch any of the games.

You would think since the NBA has more players originating from Europe they would schedule the weekend games earlier so us foreigners and ex-pats could watch the game live without having to wake up at 2am. I have a full time job and 2 kids so I not motivated to do so.

Even if I wanted to watch a live game in the middle of the night I can’t because Sky Sports owns the rights and it is a paid subscription satelite channel. I cannot get a satelite dish where I live, like many people in London. Some pubs show Sky Sports but they all close before tip-off.

It would be nice to have the option of watching live games streamed over the internet. I think I could get up at 2am every so often to watch a game on my laptop in my pjs. NBA.com doesn’t offer live game streams. Sure, I can sign up for the NBA.com League Pass but that is just highlights. I can get free highlights on ESPN.com.

    So please Mark…

Could you use your technical and entrepreneurial genius to influence the NBA head honchos to expand their online media services? Considering how you made your fortunes with Audionet, this would be a no brainer. Just think, there is whole untapped market across the ponds that just might pay money to watch live NBA from home. Granted, the World Cup starts on Friday so any non-US interest in the NBA will go to “nil”. But at least 3 out the 4 years you might have a pretty good global audience throughout the playoffs.

Go Mavs. Go Yanks. (no I am not a Yankee fan, it is for the US National team)

  141. At the bar at a Spoon’s in San Jose, California. Grew up in Dallas, and followed the Mavs closely since 82-83 but moved here a year ago. Went to games for years including games 5 and 7 vs. the Rockets last year. Seriously bummed I can’t be there.

  142. I’ll be in my apartment in New Brunswick NJ watching the game with a few friends on my Loewe 30″ TV, a great German tv to watch the big German himself, Dirk Diggler. . go Mavs!

  143. Instead of you blogging at halftime could we have Jerry Stackhouse blog after each game. We could call it “Stack on Shaq”. Maybe we could also make that part of our defensive scheme.

  144. Will be enjoying the game at the AAC with my honey who presented me with tickets on Sunday for my birthday (june13)!! That place is going to be electrifying!!I asked my employees at work to make sure and wear Mavs gear on Thursday and every game day from here on.I am soooo pumped!!
Also, for those of you ineterested…go to http://www.nikcosports.com and see the cool Mavs basketball they have for sale.I ordered one this morning and it is awesome.Check it out.It has the Finals logo and will have the NBA Champions logo printed on it WHEN they win. They are only making 5000 of them.Surely to be a collector’s item. 147. We can’t wait for the game on Thursday!!! We’ll be watching it at home in HD and have already planned a night of shots for every three pointer. And if you’re really feeling the “HEAT” everyone will be stripping nude and jumping in the pool to cool off…and shouting at the top of our lungs….LET’S GO MAVS!!! (I’m sure the neighbors will be pleased!!)

    Comment by Katie Glantz -

  148. I’ll be watching on regular ABC. Finally a channel I can watch the games on. Up here in Canada, not every game is shown. ABC on in on basic cable, so i’m all setup. It would be a lot nicer to see the game live, but the Raptors didn’t make the playoffs.

I think the half time blog would be a good idea. It will give us an insight on what is on your mind during the game, when you don’t know the final results.

Too bad TNT isn’t covering the game because it would have been nice to get a quote from Charles.

Question: If the Mavs win, do you Mark Cuban, get a Ring too?

    Comment by Daro -

  149. Mark,
I won a trip to Dallas for Game 2, and will be at the game with a buddy of mine. We get 2 nights in Dallas as part of the plan, so as you can imagine, I can’t wait! I was thinking of wearing a Tshirt that says I READ MARK CUBANS BLOG . I would hope that I could get access to that at the game if you did!

    Comment by David James -

  150. well, I won’t be watching the first few games. The Eastern Conference teams are boring to watch. If this was a Suns/Mavs type of finals I would be watching, but I fear there will too much defense played and the refs will be swallowing their wistles. Call me around game 4 just to see if someone is on the cusp of winning. At that point I MAY watch. Don’t get me wrong, Mark. Your team is fun to watch. But the nature of the finals and the style the east plays tends to take the air out of the ball.

    Comment by LayZ -

  151. Lets talk about all the fake yuppie mavs fans in the halftime blog. Gotta love rich people that buy overpriced tickets, when they didnt care about the mavs two weeks ago. mr. cuban, most of the people at the finals are wealthy people buying status. most true fans cant attend due to the cost. so many idiots wearing mavs gear that were not fans last month. blog about that during halftime🙂 Go Mavs.

  153. Maximizing the miracle of TiVo as I have a softball game, so rudely scheduled during Game One.

Oh they of little faith, didn’t they know the Mavs would be in the finals?!

By all means, blog at halftime. But the temptation might be too much for me to handle and I might sneak a peek at it before I start watching the game.

So … I’m not so sure about the half-time blog.

Besides, we all know what you’re going to post: “If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands. If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands. If your happy and you know it, then your face will surely show it. If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands.”

There will be some smiling faces and some clapping hands. Who knows, we might even have to hit the second verse and stomp our feet!

  154. Watching out heree in San Mateo, CA (wish I could be at the AAC…pounded Ticketmaster online all day Sunday for a single ticket so that I’d fly down to the game). Been a Mavs fan since 1980, and attended games throughout my childhood with my Dad’s season tickets. Mark, you’ve been amazing for the Mavs and the NBA, and I feel blessed that you’ve had the vision to bring us this far. Know that I’ll be leading a vocal contingent out here pulling the team to victory. Go Mavs!

  155. Just wanna say I love the Mavs and I can’t wait to watch the 1st game. I am not lucky enough to see it in person but I will be glued to the TV. Sadly I will be heading back to Egypt on my deployment, but at least I get to see the 1st game. The rest I will just have to catch via the internet. I am going to be watching it all by myself at home because i just moved to Seattle. I jokingly asked my family/friends if they can sponsor me, so i can come to Dallas just to watch Mavs kick Miami’s rear and yell and scream with other Mavs fans. Didn’t work out🙂

    MAVS ROCK.

    Comment by Tejas Shah -

  160. Personally, I would stay away from the half-time blogging but you are going to do what you want to do all while flipping off those in the royalty box.

Although I have one question… Why is it when I see pics of Dirk associated with a story that it is always “Dirk Nowitzki of Germany” instead of “Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks”????? What other international player has this association made between them and their native country? I don’t ever recall seeing Akeem Olajuwon of Nigeria or Pau Gasol of Spain. Maybe some of the media types can answer that one.

I have been cheering from the confines of Austin, surrounded by the enemy during rounds one and two of the playoffs. Big Spurs fan in the cube next to me… then dealing with the counterparts in PHX.

    Signed,
Michele (who is wondering what it takes for a girl to convince the hubby that she not only WANTS but NEEDS tix to a Mavs game!)

Considering you are a digital pioneer in many different ways, this would absolutely be one of the highlights of the modern blogging world, and represent a timepiece in history that many of us Gen Y MAVS fans will look back upon 20, 30, 40 years from now with our kids and grandkids!

Just like I do when I look at the old usenet archives and see Amazon and Microsoft job postings in their infancy. Chronicle the Mav’s rise to dominance in the NBA and be cool like that.

Can you do it every game… That is my challenge to you!

By the way, his kids are big for their age…(now there’s a surprise.)

As a parent, I’m pleased that his Shaq shoes are affordable for kids at Payless shoes.

They look good. My kids have Wade shoes (we found a great bargain). Shaq shoes are cheaper than Wades and look pretty good and they hum the theme song from Barney. Now that’s a frugal bargain.

Wade shoes sing, but they don’t hum barney songs.

Once you are inside work your way into any open seat in the lower level, upper level or Platinum club. Mark Cuban advocates it, he used to do it himself.

  205. Mark-

You can’t post at halftime as you haven’t all playoffs. It would go against the superstitions that you mentioned a couple of blogs ago.

Speaking of, I have listened to Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” every day since the Mavs playoffs started April 23 and will continue to do so. If you can get past “oh, it’s eminem” they are some great lyrics that get me fired up for the games.

I also have been growing a playoff beard, similar to NHL players, since April 23, and will keep it on until the Mavs playoff run is concluded.

My wife thinks the song and the beard have to go! I think it’s the Heat that need to go.

I will watch game one at the AAC as I had to beg, borrow and deal from the wife. Will watch the rest from home with my wife, son and six year old Dirk-loving daughter. She thinks he’s a superstar. I think she’s right.

Go MAVS and as Eminem sings: ‘You better lose yourself in the music, the moment, you own it, you better never let it go, you only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow this opportunity comes once in a lifetime.’

  208. I will sitting in front of my 120 inch screen getting a dismal non-HD signal. So will many if not most in Dallas but they don’t know it yet.
ABC is the only major network that does not allow local access to it’s national feed.
Intentionally or unintentionally WFAA sends out either a corrupted or week HD signal locally. The result is a maddening image, clear one minute and useless for the next 5.
DirecTV reps say it is the result of a WFAA turf war with ABC, given that WFAA is one of the minority affiliates not owned by ABC. An internet sites back this theory.
Mark, anything you can do? If nothing else lead an effort to keep ABC from getting anymore national sporting events in the future. We had no HD for the Super Bowl or the National Championship game.
Oh, yeah WFAA has a household by household waiver process allowing for a clear signal. Guess what, your chances of getting a waiver are nil.
Mark, as the catalyst for HD can you please get involved?

  218. Mark,

First — thanks for being the best owner a fan could wish for. We are lucky to have you. Second, I say NO to a blog at halftime. I want to get the win first and foremost. Why pick the finals to change your approach even in the slightest. My understanding is that you play a role before (providing stats trends etc.) and during the game (your presence near the players seems to have become the customary and is probably expected by them). I would hate to see your role altered at all during the finals in any way that could be slightly distracting. It is a generous offer, but lets win this first and then expiriment with fan pleasing innovations during the regular season. I would definitely participate next year during a regular season game. Thanks again.

Here are the question that are plaguing America.

When Shaq Diesel rips a goal out of the ground as he gorilla slams the ball down on the entire state of Texas, will you personally fix the goal?

  221. I am on a business trip and purposely scheduled my return trip (over a week ago – I have faith!) to arrive earlier than usual. Land at DFW at 6:00, should be home in front of the 52″ DLP-HDTV in time for tip off (unless you’ve got a couple of extra tickets you wanna get rid of – lol).

A half-time blog would be great (assuming the NBA doesn’t fine one for doing such a thing!)

  223. Unfortunately, I will be flying to the World Cup during game 1 and won’t land until the Mavs have a 1-0 lead in the series. But, I am going to try to watch one of the games in Dirk’s hometown while I am in Germany. How f’ing cool would that be?

  224. Mark,
I think blogging at halftime could be a very bad and expensive idea if you are not careful.

  225. When I was a kid the Barney song was called “This Old Man.” Maybe Shaq is just reliving his youth.😉

    Comment by Derek Scruggs -

  226. Should you blog during halftime? Depends on how badly you want to get fined by Stern and his trigger happy desk jockeys.

Then again, when has that ever stopped you?

    Comment by Mike -

  227. I will be watching the first game at home in my bed, because it will be at 3 a.m. on friday morning here in Germany…🙂

And Ray at #21: good sports is no matter of number of games. If you think that those Mavs series had no great games, who probably haven’t watched one of those – oh, you mentioned that.

  228. Mark,
I won a trip to Dallas for Game 2, and will be at the game with a buddy of mine. We get 2 nights in Dallas as part of the plan, so as you can imagine, I can’t wait! I was thinking of wearing a Tshirt that says I READ MARK CUBANS BLOG . I would hope that I could get access to that at the game if you did!

  229. Where I’m watching the game? At the AAC with my fiance. Section 332 baby! Color me excited.

    Comment by Michael -

  230. At home with my dogs. That way if (when?) I get excited and spill something, it’s the dog’s fault!!
About the blogging, not likely we’re going to read it during the game, so I’d say keep doing what you have been doing. DON’T UPSET WHAT WORKS ;-)) Jim.

  231. Nice answers, may I add some my own questions? So:
Do you decline all gossips which are spoken about you?
    Do you enjoy playing games?
Do you have your favourite game? If yes, what game is it🙂
    Thanks

  232. Me? I’ll be watching a good movie instead. The NBA is borrrrring. Every team plays the same type of game, so don’t bother watching to compare strategy; it’s all 1-on-1 with way too much contact involved (if I want contact, I’ll watch football); the players never seem to care (a big difference with college), and the season has gone on far, FAR too long. No matter how great NBA players are – and I will grant they are some of the finest athletes in the world – they have played well over 100 games with heavy travel mixed in. There is no way we can see high-quality basketball in the finals because of that.

Add the disgusting trashtalk, preening and individualism of today’s athlete – why do you think Cal Ripken struck such a chord in America? Or even non-Bears fans were disappointed Walter Payton didn’t get a touchdown in his only Super Bowl after quietly leading his team for so many years? – and you get a combination that has driven this semi-rabid sports fan (and former sportswriter) away from pro basketball for good.

  233. Mark-

No doubt that blogging during halftime is an ambitious and noble idea, but during the melee that is the NBA Finals would there be any time for an entry? I personally think this is genius simply because the true Mavs fans(many of which cant afford tickets to sit next to you at a game) want to see into that fiery personality of yours that comes about during a game. I think that a halftime blog would give tremendous insight into the Mark Cuban “game personality” by catching you in the heat of the moment(wait a minute, definitely no pun intended). I also feel that this will bring fans even closer to you and the Mavs because many of the thoughts and emotions experienced during a game could be mutual between you and the fans. If you have the time to do so, I would greatly appreciate your perspective at half time.

P.S. Im in Austin, so I’m heading to a designated wing factory where Ive had to talk my way out of many fights with Spurs fans after they lost to the Mavs. But Im still standing…loud and proud baby! Take it easy Mr. Cuban.

    Sincerely

please blog during half time… I would love to know whats going on in your head! GO MAVS!!

  235. I am going to watch the game in south beach with all my friends and family who are heat fans!

I have a question for you Mark:

Do you really thing Stern has a plot to destory your mavs and then take over the world?

    hahaha

  236. Hey, Mark . . . We will be watching game one from home. We have one-half of a season ticket package. The other folks have game one, so we will not see you until Sunday night. When we watch the games at home, we move our two big lounge chairs right up in front of the TV, about 36 inches from the screen. Our Mav’s games are the only time we do this. For some reason, we feel that the guys can hear us cheering if we’re really close to the TV!!! We wear our Mav’s jerseys at home the same as we do for the games.
Thanks again and again for a great season!

  238. Blogging the games would be great, Mark. I’d love to read your midgame thoughts.

And I’ll be watching the game at a local Dave and Busters with the other Mavs fan in Cincinnati. 😉

I was in the crowd when you passed out free airline tickets and will be taking my lovely wife to SA of all places later in the year on your dollar so thank you very much. Asf ro the blog, I cant wait if you do it, now if it is going to be like a halftime interview on TNT then I am not interested but if it is going to be you, the guy we all relate to as UBER-FANS, then I cant wait! Thanks for being a great owner and a great fan, it is appreciated! Go MAvs………..in 5.

  243. I’ll be at Ringer’s Sports Bar in downtown Austin with a fellow Mavs diehard and Dallas transplant.

And another evening this week the same buddy and I will be dining on fancy steaks thanks to a vendor (heavy-hearted Spurs fan still smarting from the previous round) who dared to bet against the Mavs on the Western Conference Finals.

    Go Mavs!

    Comment by Patrick -

  244. Watch at home with my son and lady, HD ABC.

Mark… interesting thought, you could give your seat to a worthwhile cause (I don’t even know if you are into that.).
If you did the TV networks wouldn’t be able to stop saying something about it. Would be great publicity for whatever cause you picked.

    Comment by Adam -

  245. I don’t know how you will be composed enough to blog at half-time. I know I won’t be composed enough to read.

We are staying at home for the Finals with my baby MFFL and the rest of the neighborhood.

    Comment by rick -

  246. Well we would PREFER to be watching the game in the AAC, but without tickets, that could be difficult. Maybe. 🙂

We’re definitely all set and ready to see the Mavs bring home the Championship.

By the way, thanks for the Victory “flyover” Sat night/Sun morning.

    Comment by Mark -

  247. Dude, you gotta blog at halftime! That would be awesome! Would love to hear your halftime-reporter questions for Shaq too.

I’m going to watch the game at home with my wife. Mavs are going to win big, though!

  248. I saw that Steve Smith interview with Shaq last night

BY the way I just want to apologize for some comments I made last November. That was not right.

I do want to say one thing about that interview though, and I am not jsut trying to be provocative

I thought Shaq came across as an arrogant jerk in that interview

I dont think he is an arrogant jerk but I thought he came across that way in the interview

    but thats just my opinion

I’d prefer to see him in hollywood movies rather then the nba finals cuz I think he does have skills in front of a camera

    but thats just me

And I want to say I thought Stackhouse had an amzing year this year and is a major reason why the mavericks are where they are

  249. friends at drinking establishment; although I really think you should pick one lucky fan to fly in and sit next to you at the game…I could probably get the day off!!
Being a sports journalist, my first thought was Miami would win this series in six or seven games, but have had a change of heart and really think Dallas can take them….just keep driving the basket and get Shaq in foul trouble

  250. the only place to be is the double AC….

    any tix for sale?

    Comment by TommyD -

  251. Since the eBay page for Mavs tickets will not load due to the ridiculous number of commas and zeros sucking bandwidth, I will be watching the game in the confines of my home – ABC-HD of course.

Yes! Blog at halftime. It would be unprecedented and awesome.

    Go Mavs!

  252. Man, I absolutely cannot wait for Thursday. I won’t be in attendance, but the atmosphere is going to be amazing. All my best to you and the Mavs.

  253. I will be watching with my six-month-old son in my living room in suburban Seattle. I grew up on the Mavs– and I still have a program from the exhibition doubleheader that opened Reunion Arena to prove it– and my son is also being raised properly on Mavs basketball.

  254. Funny, Blogging from the home games during half time? – that is ludacris, I know you support your blog with alot of time and effort (or maybe not) its probably easy for you .. but to the point This is the time where you need to show off to the world!, not just America we know Mark Cuban, the world needs to catch wind of how to energize a crowd even if you are the owner – and how to do what you have done with the Mavericks. You need to prepare something of a superbowl half time show – include the most outside the box idea, pass out things to the fans that aren’t cheap and pass out things that have never been passed out. Do things that will make other owners wake up. – You an ‘outside the box’ kind of guy- do something! you have the stage, the audience, now you get to prove if you have the gusto.. – Rbowles
