  5. Dennis has way too much time on his hands to be hovering over a blog that is pro Dallas Mavericks. The celts have a great history, and Pierce is an all-star caliber player. But honestly, anyone that has been on the mavs bandwagon during these last 3 thrilling (going on 4) series victories just has to look at your comments and laugh. Paul Pierce is the last person running through the heads of mavs fans right now. I guess it just gets all blurred when your seeing that gold trophy on display after every commercial break. Was that last year when the mavs utterly destroyed Pierce and the Celts.

You are the fly that was buzzing around Steve Nash’s head during game 5’s postgame press conference.

On another note, holding shaq to only 5 points is damn incredible. When’s the last time thats happend to him in a playoff game.

Go Mavs. Beat the Heat !!!!

  6. You guys are just playin’ better than we are. I’m not gonna blame anyone but my team (unlike a certain coach in Seattle) for not getting the job done.

BTW, I AM A STEELER FAN which is why I took the liberty to rip on Holmgren.

    Comment by Heat Fan -

  7. wow, Dennis.

Get a grip. I know what it’s like to be a fan of a sucky team; believe me, I do. (Maybe next year my Raps will make the playoffs. That would be nice.)

I’m here mostly ’cause I’m a fan of Jerry, Dirk & Avery. And it’s nice to see Diop playing well. (Yeah, he used to be a Rap. Sigh.) But I’m no Mavs fan.

But I do know they’re pretty good. And FWIW, The Truth is a fine player. Maybe someday he’ll be playing for a team that can live up to his ability.

But the Celts ain’t it. Not now.

Just like my Raps ain’t exactly supporting CB4 too well.

Maybe sometime, Pierce’ll be in a Dallas uniform. And before you say it’s impossible, once I woulda sworn Stack was a Piston for life. And Ainge is crazy.

Dirk did deserve the MVP this year. The Truth and CB4 didn’t. And it’s not just because they’re playing on sucky teams, but because Dirk really is better.

But even if Dirk wasn’t better. If CB4 was playing with Jet, Stack, Damp, Griffin, Harris, and Howard, my Raps would be a pretty awesome team.

And that’s part of being a fan too. Even when you know your guys are overmatched, even when you know they’re not gonna be checking out new jewelry in July, you stick by ’em. The Raps are my team, and I’m glad they got the #1 pick, even in a weak draft.

But, you know, I don’t think they’re gonna win it all next year.

Hey, guys, if any of you are reading this… CB4? Even the Swirsk? Go ahead and prove me wrong. I’ll love it. 🙂

But if they don’t, I’m still proud of ’em, because they really tried to win. (Except for Mike James. But his box-score-padding ways are going away soon.)

The part of being a fan, though, which I don’t like, and that you’re doing – you don’t tell fans of other teams that their teams suck, and yours is better, when it clearly isn’t. There are long-term Mavs fans on this board, and they’ve suffered for a long time waiting for something good to happen for their guys. And it’s finally coming true. You shouldn’t take that away from them.

At least your boys already have a bunch of banners hanging…

  9. What is the deal with Stuart Scott beginning/ending each interview with something negative? Case in point: 1. Finals Game 1 -“Terry – You can hit four 3-pointers but you can’t hit a layup?”
    2. Halftime, Finals Game 2 – “Damp – you had 0 points…”

I think my friend Justin had a good point – that abrasive commentating style is entertaining when sitting behind the desk, but when you are in their faces, some finesse would be nice. Any thoughts?

  10. at least Im no fairwhether fan like you guys, I can admit the celts sucked this year although they had the best player in the nba, however I still will keep on purchasing my half season tickets with optimism for the future, however, none of you mavs fans will admit, most of you are fairwhether fans and dont remember before the dirk era, hell, most of you probly didnt watch most of this season until the playoffs so at least I can honestly say Im a true fan and be proud.

As to dirk being a household name, no shit sherlock, because its so fucking uncommon. If it were reversed, and paul pierce was named dirk, you could refer to him as dirk and everyone would still know who he was. thats like saying mookie was a household name when he was playing for the hawks in the mid ninteies, he wasnt neccersatlriy better than paul pierce, he just had an uncommon name.

as for the person who reffered to pierce as a stabbing victem, that makes him more amazing, he was stabbed multiple times the the back of the neck weeks before the season began and was in critical condition and still didnt miss a game from it. WHAT A DAMN WARRIOR. im sure mark cuban would love to have a player like that

I mean com’n steve nash has Marion who also puts up All star numbers and consistancy. Nowitzki has basically been the only constant on the Mavs team. The other players aren’t bad but you can’t say they are better then marion. Oh and Please Mavs beat the Heat so bad at home that shaq doesn’t want to do the post game there either hahahah

  17. Saravanan: The Mavs already have one record that oughta last a while: Two four-point plays in one Finals game. Plus, Stack has the 10-0 run in a Finals game, which he shares with Isiah Thomas, from back when Isiah was a great PG instead of a horrible GM 🙂

oh, wait, Mark Cuban is the only owner that takes time to communicate with his teams fan base. Must be why a Celt’s fan is on here. Go cheer on your Sox, who got pounded in the 2nd game yesterday by the Rangers. Oh well, at least you’ve got “next year”.

    They ripped the Grizzlies!

They had a Texas style showdown with the Spurs near the talked about, Riverwalk.

They battled the Suns to only step into battle with the Heat.

But with a 2 game lead, can the Mavericks bring in a Tropical storm of their own to cool down the Heat?

Parts of Florida is about to be hit with Tropical Storm Alberto. While Miami is about to get hit with Tropical Storm Mavericks.

Will the Miami Heat be prepared?

Or will the General call upon his mighty warriors to unleash a storm that Miami has never seen before?

Did you see how Shaq was acting after reaching finals? They got to finals only becuase Detroit
sucked not becuz of Miammi D.
Now Shaq should realize it that he can’t win it all by himself. He can’t take credit for everything. All he knows is smack the ppl around him and dunk the ball ..he has no ball handling skill..

Being in Germany and not following the MAVS for such a long time yet, I really feel that energy of the team and that great crowd in the AA center!
Just awesome to see (and literally feel) that HEAT (no pun intended – obviously Miami does not deserve that name *g) created on the court.
Seeing Dirk, Terry and Stackhouse in action compared to Shaq – looks like a whole different league to me.
So, MAVS, you got yourselves a new fan over in Germany.

Ten years ago, if someone were to tell me that the Mavericks would make the NBA Finals, I would have thought that they were being bitingly sarcastic or mentally insane. Now that it’s happening, it doesn’t seem like much of a surprise. It’s amazing what a dedicated and passionate owner can do to turn around a franchise. Congrats, and even though I’m a Kings fan, I am rooting for the Mavericks to win the championship.

  49. I watched Stack play over the years. From the Pistons to the Mavs. This maybe an overkill, I’ve always thought that he plays like Kobe Bryant (same style) but never as hard on both ends of the court. Slasher streaker and he can makes shot everywhere. Since joining the Mavs, he’s matured tremendously as a person and a player. To be able to come off the bench and make a huge impact game in game out, this Dallas team is not only Deep, they going Deep to be the NBA Champions..Haha…I’m a true Lakers fan. which means I’m anti-Shaq. I hope the Mavs keep it up, especially you Mr Cuban. You deserve it and the city of Dallas too. Greatest luck to you.

Although I think the Stack trade, along with firing Carlisle, points to a bigger problem with the Pistons: No loyalty. Stack and Carlisle were both instrumental in turning the Pistons from a wreck into a wrecking ball, and they both got sent off when Dumars thought he could cut a better deal.

And in Carlisle’s case, he clearly didn’t; but I think Stack has proven himself to be more of a team player than Hamilton ever was, by turning into Dallas’ sixth man last year, and now just another part of the team.

And he did still do a one-man 10-0 run 😛

  84. Ok.. commentators are back on… The question was “What’s wrong with Miami?” The answer from Hubie “I love Miami” Brown is that they are not playing well. Let’s try this answer instead “They are getting their asses kicked by Dallas.” Why is that so hard to say?

    Comment by Michele -

  85. From http://www.WhoWins.com: teams up 16 at halftime in NBA playoff games are 30-0. Thirty wins. No losses. Here’s to 31 — GO MAVS!!!

  87. Avery is the man. Game plan is being excuted to perfection. Hopefully this will hold true when the buzzer sounds in the 4th.

Did Stackhouse hit a 4 pointer. Damn, didn’t think that was possible but it happend.

    Go Mavs

  88. GO HEAT!!

    Comment by Jen -

  89. Why aren’t the penetrators shooting all those short jumpers? That’s how they’ve been turning over the ball. Instead of shooting or using the glass, they’ve been dishing out. By that time, spacing is off or pass is intercepted.

    Comment by Texaspeklat -

  90. Miami is not the ropes. They are playing disorganized! Wade and Shaq are both totally nonproductive. Keep up the defence and the offensive pressure! You run and handle the ball there is no way the Heat can stay with the Mavs.

    Comment by Jeff Minett -

  91. Hey, Pistons fans.

Think you’re better off with Hamilton than Stackhouse?

    Think again.

When did Hamilton do a 10-0 run – BY HIMSELF – in the NBA Finals?

Well, now the aging, old-legs, run-down little ol’ Jerry has just done it.

    Comment by Dan Flemming -

  92. This just shows that the MAVs not only outclass the Heat, they outlast the Heat! Jerry has turned it on – and with a great roster hangin’ with him. Can’t wait for the 2nd half – Mark – we’re all there with you!

  96. Looking good. SHAQ is confused and frustrated. D. Wade’s playground moves don’t work against such an athletic and quick defense. We just need to keep pushing it, rebound and force anyone other than wade or shaq to beat us.

  100. Stick to our game in second half:

    1) Keep running. They’ll tire.

    2) Keep drivin the hole, but tell Harris to be aware of his options if lane is stacked.

    3) Keep rotating our rested centers to give shaq hell.

    4) Spread the ball around to see which 2 of the big 4 is hot… dirk, howard, terry, stack

    Kaleb – Warez P2P

    Comment by kaleb -

  101. stack’s performance only shows how deep the bench of dallas. Game 1 was Jet Show, game 2 was Stack show, who would be the performer for game 3? By the way, kudos to Dampier as he outplayed Shaq!

    Comment by Joel Bauca -

  102. You’re an idiot. Watch the face of any Miami player after a fol. They look like they are smelling something dead soaked in onions and vomit. ( Antoine Walker looks like he’s going to cry: EVERY time.)

To clarify: Game 5 of the 2006 NBA Finals:
Miami Heat – 49 free throws
Dallas Mavericks – 25 free throws

Try actually watching a game before making your ridiculous opinions public.

As for the “sore losers” characterization you want to use on the Mavericks: Which NBA team do you root for during the regular season? Did Dallas eliminate them from the playoffs?
To quote several professional athletes from the 20th and 21st centuries: “Show me someone who is not a sore loser, and I’ll show you someone who is still a loser.”

    Comment by Sean Heath -

  103. OK…don’t flame me but I would like to make a few comments. First of all I am a middle age woman who has never watched much basketball (big football fan), but I got interested in the playoffs and now I think I am hooked and want to learn more about basketball.

Looking from my rookie eyes it appears to me that there has been two different set of rules…one for the Mavs and one for the Heat. Unfortunately I wish the Mavs had the the Heat rules.

It appears to me that Shaq has manhandled and beat up on the Mavs..what is with the elbow to the face and head about and why isn’t it a foul? Why does Wade draw so many free shots with phantom fouls?

But the bottom line in my opionion is that the Mavs had a chance in 2 of the 3 games in Miami even with the interference of the refs. They just couldn’t seemed to get it going.

Now that the are back in Dallas I think Miami is finally going to feel some real heat!

    Comment by Lynn Piland -

  104. So the real question are how much of a fine do the refs pay when they miss 2 calls right in front of them. If Dirk gets fine for kicking the ball into the stands shouldn’t the refs get fine for missing calls right in front of them. Could the NBA be controlling the out come just to bring in more revenue for 7 games then just 4 or 5 games.

  106. Post 202 says he’s been watching NBA for 35 years and never saw a dirtier foul than stack’s? R U kidding me? Even in the fast break era, Lakers-Celts had more Kurt Rambis and McHale incidents in one game than that foul. Get real.

This Mavs fan makes no excuses and gives the Heat credit for taking the lead in this series. Fortunately for Dallas, it is first one to 4 and we will see if you can beat us there.

No matter the outcome, our Stars will show up at press conferences and our fans will not boo the home team like the Heat bandwagon fans did in 3Q Game 3.

Man, you Mavs fans are whiners. You were done in SA with 12 seconds left when the refs bailed you out with the call that gave Nowitski a 3 point play. That call at that point in the game can only be described as a gift from heaven. Without it, you are down 1 with 12 sec left, hoping for missed FTs form the Spurs.

Nowitski just set a record for most FTAs in a playoff season, and you are still whining.

I have watched NBA ball for 35 years, and have never seen as dirty a foul as Stack’s hit on Shaq – it was a forearm shiver to the head

First, even Ginobili knows he fouled Dirk on that play. Watch the replay sometime with your EYES open and even you will see the foul.

Second, go back and look at the number of fouls called on the Mavs during these playoffs vs. the number against their opponents. Mavs are getting more calls against them than for them. Dirk just happens to be drawing more of the fouls than anyone. Oh, of course they don’t call fouls on Duncan against the likes of Dampier or Diop, nor do they call them against Shaq. Shaq hasn’t even been in foul trouble which we all know is a crock.

Third, Stackhouse’s foul was not a forearm shiver to the head. Again, watch the video with your eyes open. It was just a hard foul that even Steve Kerr said should not have drawn a suspension and Kerr doesn’t like the Mavs at all.

I have watched NBA ball for 35 years, and have never seen as dirty a foul as Stack’s hit on Shaq – it was a forearm shiver to the head reminiscent of Jack Tatum from Oakland Raiders lore. He should have been booted with a flagrant 2, you are fortunate it was only a 1 game suspension.

Steve, somehow I doubt you’ve watched the NBA for 3.5 years, much less 35. If that’s the dirtiest foul you’ve ever seen you never watched Malone foul people, Rodman, Mchale, the Bad Boys in Detroit. Shaq himself over the years has been the master of the dirty foul. Please refrain from making dumb ass comments that make the blinders you wear so obvious.

    -Steve Shaw

Wow, Steve, you’re so great for having watched the NBA for 35 years. What makes you even greater is the fact that you’re a greater loser than you already portray yourself. Stack’s foul on Shaq was the dirtiest foul you’ve ever seen? You must have been watching a different NBA, Mr. Shaw. Recall some of the great fouls in NBA history: McHale on Rambis during the NBA Finals at the height of the 1980s Lakers-Celtics rivalry; any of the Detroit Pistons fouling Michael Jordan during the Jordan-Rules-era; Rodman versus Malone during the NBA Finals in 1997 and 1998; need I say more?

You have shown your utmost incompetency in these matters. I hope you never ever claim to be such a huge NBA fan that you think you are. You know what’s sad? You’ve been watching the NBA for longer than I’ve been alive, and it’s clear I know more than you do.

That said, the foul was NOT as dirty as Mr. Shaw portrayed it to be–even some of you fans acknowledged that Shaq didn’t think much of it afterward. Whatever the case, the suspension stands, and the Mavs have to make do without Stackhouse. Here’s to hopefully a classic Game Five later tonight. Have fun, Mr. Steve “I’m the NBA’s biggest fan and know more about it than anyone else” Shaw.

Shaq breaks our guys nose, elbows Dirk in the face “accidentally” about 4 times a game, pushes our guys around with his grossly oversized body…and no fouls are called let alone is he suspended! I don’t give a crap if the league likes Mark Cuban(Mavs fans love him:-) but to be so obviously biased against the Mavs is just BS! And where did they buy the lousy refs from..come on guys, this is the NBA Championship, not JV high school ball, let em play, call it fairly and LET THEM PLAY.don’t let the refs or David Stern determine who wins the Championship, let the Mavs and Heat sort that out. 119. Regarding the Stackhouse one game suspension and the officiating in general. Hey Shaq is a big deal and does get the calls going his way. And yes the officiating favors Miami. And yes there is a lot of powerful people wanting a Miami win. But all year we have not complained about officiating. That is not in our control. And sometimes complaining about it draws it too us more. The call was wrong Absolutely. But we need to win strong so that calls don’t matter in the game. Just be aggressive and win ! Then the calls start going your way.

  132. Post season stats…

    Dirk=NBA leading post season scorer

    Dirk=NBA leading post season rebounder

Dirk=50 points in elimination game after carrying his team back from an 18 pt. deficit.

Dirk=Biggest play in post season in 15 years in the final seconds of regulation in game 7 AT s.a.

Dirk=Nashville, San Antonio, Pheonix and Miami’s biggest nightmare.

Paul Pierce= sitting at home watching Dirk…

    “Paul Pierce=living legend”
    Dirk Nowiztki=Decent role player”.

my argument is that you are an idiot. Dirk is a top 6 player in the NBA, probably top 4 after this post season.

    Regular season 05-06 stats…
Dirk= 15% better free throw shooter at 91%
    Dirk= better 3FG %
    Dirk= better FG%
    Dirk=More games played
Dirk= .2 ppg less per game in less minutes per game.

If your boy is a superstar, how does Dirk beat him in every statistical category but ppg playing less minutes????????

Amen, speak it. I live in the Dallas area and people who swore they hated basketball are now decked out in Finals gear. As far as Stack not getting respect, I see it as just the opposite. He missed 29 games early in the year and STILL managed to get the votes to finish 3rd in 6MOTY. That’s respect. Name another player in the modern (Since Jordan) era to miss over 1/3 of the season and still finish in the top 3 in an individual category.
Keep giving the Spurs fans hell!!!!

    Comment by trey allmon -

  139. Dennis, you still haven’t told us which course the Celts are on. And just in case you missed it in the first post earlier, we had a chance to draft Paul Pierce over Dirk. Except we worked out a deal for the Bucks to take Dirk right in front of your Celts because he was #1 on their list, Not Paul Pierce. (Ya’ll settled for PP) Then we traded the Tonka Tractor Traylor for him. So, to the point, we could have had the Truth, we decided on the German. How many times has PP been in the Eastern Finals??? The NBA Finals??? Playoff games won??? I know his supporters aren’t as good as Dirk’s, but Dirk has improved every statistical category in his game every year for the past 8 years. I think we’ll live with the horrible regret of taking Dirk over Truth. Douchebag.

  146. This comment is not really on Stack per say…its more on the bandwagon jumpers I have been hearing and dealing with the last couple of weeks…and the media is part of it. I live deep south Texas where the only thing rarer than Mavericks fans is water. That is until now. During the grueling 7 game series with San Antonio all I heard from the media and from fans was how “our Spurs” would somehow pull off the comeback and make it to the finals once again. I heard about the whining crying Mavs who won only by flopping and making unfair trips to the foul line. Now, all of a sudden, “our Mavs” are in the finals and just 2 wins away from capturing a the 7th NBA title for the state of Texas. “Our Mavs” are suddenly “our Mavs” to the now, seemingly former Spurs fans. I have lived and died with the Mavs now since the days of Mark Aguirre and Roy Tarpley and these are “my Mavs”…So all fair weather fans who root only for a team when it’s a winner…you will be able to take the rest of the summer off (after about game 5) and wake up sometime around the end of May next year and find out who you will cheering for in the finals. As for me…I will be cheering for my Mavs during, after, and before next years finals (even if they dont make it again…ever {wont happen})!!!
PS I loved Stack in college, didnt follow his NBA career until he came to Dallas, but man, can this guy take over a game! I think he still needs to learn to pass a little more often, but he is the best post up guy the Mavs have and still can take it strong to the hoop when the situation presents itself. Third in the voting for 6th man of the year…talk about no respect!

  148. MAVs need to believe. If they start to focus on other things, media, parade, winning the title, they will lose tonight. As the saying goes “Don’t count your eggs before they hatch”. They just need to focus on their game plan tonight. Take one game at a time. Do not get discourage if they get behind, because the MAVs have proven they can rally back. They have “heart”. When they play tonight, they need to take the ball to the basket. No need for any fancy plays or taking the shot without any execution plan. The HEAT is coming out tonight, and they plan to use their frustration and turn into energy with the home crowd supporting them. The MAVs just need to pick apart their game plan each play at a time, and turn the Heat’s frustration into mistakes. Turnovers will be key in the game. MAVs just need to keep their heads in the game, and not think about the parade. They have two more games they need to win. Take one game at a time. Lets make tonight the 3rd win!!!

  153. no question stack was huge.

if avery goes to hack a shack all game riley will go with alonzo who in limited minutes was awesome in game 2. since zo can hit his free throws — and is a better defender than shaq — hack a shack may end up hurting the mavs (riley has benched shaq in the last 4 minutes of games all season and playoffs long).

the beautiful thing about the 2-3-2 format for dallas? winning the first 2 games means even if the heat make a miraculous comeback in this series, they would have to clinch in dallas because there is no game 6 home game like they had against detroit.. that can be demoralizing.

Yes, you DO have to play SO much better. Motivate them. Do something.

IT DOES NOT MATTER IF WE PLAY THEM AT HOME, AT THEIR HOME, OR IN ANY ARENA IN THE WORLD. WE WILL CRUSH THEM WITHOUT ANY DOUBT AT ALL.

IT ALL ENDS JUNE 15, 2006 IN MIAMI.

  160. RE: Hornets of OKC…

Wake up!!! Pinch yourself, you’re dreaming. Are you kidding, the Heat are gonna win the next 4??????????? What series have you been watching up to now? Miami has thrown everything they have at the Mavs. Shaq is 1-18 from the line, had 5 points last night. Dirk has as many points as their 1-2 punch in game 2. The Mavs defense has stymied the Heat. And now that Udonis tried to go for the hard foul and hurt himself (I enjoyed his “gangsta scowl” through the rest of the game) who’s gonna pick up that slack in Game 3? Zo had a good game, problem is, he was the only one. On the good guys side you had several good games. Stack, Dirk, Jet, Jo-Ho, Damp… Heat have no answer. Enjoy games 3 and 4, the Heat are done.

LETS NOT GET TOO LIPPY UNTIL THE JOB IS DONE.
    THEN WE PARADE.

FOR ALL THE HEAT FANS, ASK YOURSELF THIS ONE QUESTION, ” IN A 5 GAME SERIES, WOULD DALLAS LOSE 4?” – YEAH, JUST LET THAT SINK IN A BIT.

LETS TAKE JUST A QUICK OR RECENT LOOK AT HISTORY.

2005-2006 SEASON. MAVS WINS AGAINST THE HEAT= 4
HEAT WINS AGAINST THE MAVS= 0

YEP, THAT IS RIGHT – ZERO.

    ENJOY.

  164. What makes the Mav so great in this new NBA era is that the word teamwork means something. This is an age of self-righteous play of individuals who ride on the wave of self promotion to “up” thier stock. Dallas is a team. TEAM!! Yeah Kobe is a good player but who won the MVP former Mav Steve Nash. Why? because he makes the team work together. When Steve was in Dallas he and Dirk used to spend endless nights playing the game to push each other to be better players. They would understand each others movements and compliment them. That’s Passion. Dallas has that. Let’s face it if Dallas was not in the finals people would not take a second look at Dallas (besides Dirk). In game 1 it was the Jet show and in game 2 it was about the motivational lift that Stack brought. Dallas has a deep bench that at any point one of them could on the sportscenter highlight reel. Dirk is awesome don’t get me wrong but each player is actually working like a clock. Extra passes and quick defense transitions. It’s the internal that makes this team the best this year. My wife (now a Mavs fan) said it best when she said “the team that wants it more will always win.” Hopefully sports teams and franchises will come back to playing well with others (lesson from the 1st grade). Mark is a fan and because of that pure motivation (not about the Benjamins) is he a great role model. I heard he donates a matching fine to a charity. Next year will be an age of teamwork as the Mavs as the trendsetter.

  165. I had the privilege of going to a Mavs preseason game when I was in Dallas last fall. I was impressed with the brick exterior of the AAC.

Now you can put on an addition with all the bricks that Shaq has donated.

I also want to say, I whis my #1 team (the Cavs) had as great of owner as my #2 team (the Mavs). I love seeing you sitting on the sideliens passionately watching every game and seeing the footage of you out in the community being an every day guy. You’ve done a fantastic job with this franchise and I hope Dan Gilbert learns some things from you.

  166. If any MAVS player reads this blog, I hope that you will follow this simple list in Miami.

    1. DO NOT PICK UP ANY SKANKS.
    2. BRING YOUR OWN CHEF TO COOK YOUR FOOD.
    3. AVOID SOUTH BEACH AT ALL COSTS.
    4. REPEAT NUMBER 3.
    5. DON’T WATCH SPORTSCENTER OR LISTEN TO HUBIE ” I NEED A DUBIE ” BROWN. WATCHING THAT EAST COAST BIASED BASED NETWORK WILL ONLY LEAD TO MIND NUMBEDNESS.
    6. BELIEVE.

AND FINALLY, STAY IN THE HOTEL ROOM WITH YOUR FAMILY.

  167. Having the right coach makes a difference in a team winning a game. You can have the best players on a team and they are still unable to win the big games. Why? Coaches are key players of the game. Having a coach who knows how to motivate players and who is able to motivate players in believing they can achieve and win games is the key. It is the coach’s job to make sure the players do not lose focus on the game, and to continue to show heart even when the team is down many points. We have seen to be true many times with the MAVs. They would be down 20 points plus, and come from behind to win the game. Staying positive and focusing on the positives is important. If you focusing on the negatives, chances are you will lose the game!! I heard last night that Pat Riley told his team, “everyone on the team is playing the same, bad basketball.” How did that statement help the team? Pat needed to focus on how to motivate the players to play their best game. What he should have stated to the team, “Not sure if you all are aware, but this is not a practice pre-game. This team knows how to quiet a home crowd by playing your best game. Miami Heat deserves to be here and we need to show them why we are in the finals. We have the ability in the second half to take this game away and go home with a tied series.”

Difference is Avery seems to be a coach that does not focus on what they are doing wrong, the negatives, but rather what the team players are learning from the game, how they could improve thier game, and modify it as they play the game. Focus on what is working not on what is not working. We have seen how Avery modifies the game plan before and during the game which is key. The Mav players understand and believe in Avery’s gameplan.

The Mavs players played their very best last night, and a lot of credit goes to the coaches, especially the head coach, Avery. The Mavs showed last night they believe in themselves despite not having any NBA finals experience. The Mavs need to stay focus. Miami Heat will be playing at home, so the Mavs will not have the home crowd. MAVs just need to stay focus, play the basketball game they have played all year long. Continue to show strength and confidence that the MAVs are the best of the NBA. It is great to see a basketball team play great together.

    GO MAVS!!!!

Thanks AVERY for taking the team to the next
    level!!!!!

It shows and the team and the city believes!!!!

Shaq talking down on Damp – 20 seconds of air time
Damp containing Shaq in game 2 – 20.5 min
    Seeing him “speachless” – $10,000

P.S. I like Shaq. He is a good guy. Very nice and generous. The word “humbelness” doesn’t come to mind though.

  170. How about a video/song remake that starts off with Shaq’s “Erika” remark, then bust into Toby Keith’s “How do You Like Me Now”? Redo the words appropriately and show a constantly frustrated Shaq being dominated in the paint! Would bring down the roof at American Airlines!… Shaq was the 3rd best center playing in game 2.

One more thing… Thanks Mark for all you have done for Dallas fans and for the NBA!

-To the media, I hate all coverage of the mavericks on any station. Get some new commentators, not ones that always pick the other team to win unless the mavericks are spanking them. Mark how about an online mavericks channel where the commentators are MFFL? Then I can get mad at the game and not what the commentators say. (just observation from all season)

-And to anyone talking crap about any mavs player, Is your team going to win the championship?

One more thing Mark, should I get a custom cuban jersey or one that is number 06 with Champions on the back?

Shaq is pointing fingers at everyone and we all know what Payton is doing in the locker room about now. Time is the only enemy for the Mav’s. Riley will stir the sports writers to show the Heat are worthless and dead. He is a master of the game…..

  179. I am totally awestruck by the way this team has played this season! There is some true chemistry between these players, and Avery cannot be commended enough for pushing them to the next level. It seems like, in the last 5-6 years when they made it to the playoffs and got beat by the Spurs, Suns, or Kings, something was missing that kept them from reaching the next level. Not anymore! I cannot be happier for these players, the coaches, and Mark. GO MAVS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Comment by Jill -

  180. Great job Mavs! Half way there.

Hey Mark, you might have to change that game 7 free tickets for game 4. If the Mavs go up 3-0 then if would be sweet to snag all those available Heat tickets (if any left) and give ’em to Mavs’ fans. Can you imagine peppering the Hot White Heat crowd with Green and Blue?

Reminder for Eric Dampier: Remember, Shaq called you “ERICA, the second best center in the WNBA”!

For all you guys out there complaining that the game is not as exciting compared to the Spurs and Suns series. Don’t care. As long as the Mavs completely dominate Shaq, that’s exciting for me. Let me remind you that he used to posterize (albeit with Stickman Shawn) the Mavs then talk smack about it. I like Shaq but it’s nice to turn the table on him every now and then. Make him eat his words and his promise to Miami to deliver a championship there.

PS: Avery, please do something about those 19 TOs.

  181. Game 2 was my first (and probably only) NBA Finals game. I had a wonderful time, even with some well-behaved but misguided Heat fans behind me. Mark, great job with the franchise. You’re a media whore and cashcow in fines for the league. The perfect owner! Avery…AMAZING. What a disciplined and tenacious coach. A Mav would NEVER get away with 1-7 FT shooting.

    I believe

  182. Strategy is simple. Give the ball to Terry, Josh, Dirk or Stack. And keep hacking Shaq. The self-proclaimed “best 34 year old in the league” can make babies (hell he got about 6 of ’em) but he can’t BUY or MAKE a free throw. It’s called the charity stripe for a reason. Keep sending his no talent having butt to the stripe and it’s charity and victory ALL THE WAY FOR DALLAS. GO MAVS!!

    Comment by Elle Williams -

  183. Dan, I know this is off topic, but how can you say Joe Dumars made the wrong move in getting rid of Carlisle and Stack, it led to a few finals appearances, and a championship. As Mark probably knows, to get to teh top you have to make hard decisions, and that’s what Joe D did.

I look forward to Miami winning the next three and then coming to Dallas to collect the gold hardware.

I also look forward to next season when CP3 and the Hornets will look to avenge home losses.

Good job shutting Shaq down though. Hope it keeps up, because the refs on his home turf don’t seem to call many of the elbows.

I absolutely have to commend you for the great work you and Avery have done with the Mavs. I’m from Massachusetts, a longtime Lakers fan, and new Dallas Mavericks fan. I personally didn’t think the Mavs were a very strong team
a few years ago but you’ve got my attention now.

I’m definitely rooting for you all to send Shaq and the Heat packing into retirement. I would love to bring out the “broom” when the Mavs sweep the Heat (my husband is a Heat fan so I meant that literally).

You are, by far, the most entertaining and dedicated owner in the NBA. I wish you the best. You will be the champs this year. You deserve it!

  201. Thats what I’m talking about. Just one thing that I have a bad feeling about right now, I know you guys are up 2-0 but I think this is the time to be the most nervous. Sometimes teams react better when their backs are against a wall and your playing against one of the greatest coaches and players of all time. And D-Wade can turn a game around and thus a series, Coach Johnson NEEDS to add additional pressure to Dirk and company and step it up. Would love to see you guys sweep the series at least. Good luck in Miami, just like their driving, they can be very very dangerous.

  205. I hope Miami can make this a good series. I kind of knew that Dallas was going to win this series just because of how easily Dallas beat Miami in the Regular season but I was hoping to see a good 7 game series. Not a blowout where Wade and Shaq look bad. Not all this complaining by Shaq and Wade.

They are really taking themselves out of the game and I think it’s going to stain Shaq’s legacy for a long time if they get swept.

Looking on the bright side, Avery Johnson and Cuban are both good guys. Avery Johnson really worked hard to get where he is today and I’m glad that he was able to do so well after Don Nelson left him the Team.

Cuban is a real fan of basketball and this will show that an owner who is a real fan of the game is better than just a corporate suit looking to cash in.

He’s “New Money”! That’s why they don’t like him but this is his year and they can’t keep Cuban down.
