  14. Mark, since you like hearing ideas from fans, how about a “Loser’s Bracket” for the NBA playoffs. This bracket would consist of all the teams that didn’t make the traditional playoffs.

Maybe it could be a “sweet 14” and be one and done. Or maybe just shorter series.. And what would the carrot be for all these teams and create any fan interest? How about the winner of the Loser’s Bracket gets the first pick in the draft? All other picks would follow in reverse finish order.

While this might preclude the worst team from getting the first pick very often, it rarely happens now, anyway. Since the system was changed in 1993 to increase the chances of the worst team getting the first pick, the worst team has gotten the first pick 2 times in the last 20 years.

    Just a thought.

  20. @Melinda Augustina….I think you are misunderstanding Marks post. Brittney Griner is a female collegiate basketball player. She did not leave that message. Gary, the numbers guy, left that message. He is basically trying to tell Mark that because of this numerology “thing” (I’m being nice) that Mark should draft Brittney, and if Mark does not draft her based on his “belief” on numerology, that Mark has no clue.

@Rey Cesay…it would be nice to think that’s all it takes to be successful in sport’s or business or life….just throw a bunch of money at something. However, that is not the case. Additionally, with the NBA’s new CBA, it will be incredibly tough for teams to keep their current rosters. As an example, based on the numbers I have found, If the Lakers sign Dwight Howard to a max deal (which to keep him, they will have to) they will be operating at a loss of somewhere between 25-50 million dollars next year. I don’t know how much cash reserves the Buss family has, but unless they got Mark-type money, they will not be able to sustain that and eventually they will have to either: dump Kobe, dump Dwight, dump everyone else on the team, sell the team, or simply go bankrupt.

    Comment by PaintedTrim (@lpdelat) -

  23. @Rey. Actually what a lot of teams don’t realize is that by using our skills they may be able to buy up and coming caliber players for a much lower amount. Just because the highest paid had a good year in previous ones does not guarantee that the upcoming ones will be more of the same. Also it will not help if the guy they pay the big bucks for end up with an injury prone season either..

    Comment by bsk11 -

  24. Mark Cuban is a good business man but not a good business in sports, if you want to have a good team you need to spend money. Lets see for example, Lakers and Celtics have the most championships, the point is that they are spending big money on players. Your are selling your players, I guess money talks and forget the fans huh. I will always support my Mavericks but you need to think outside the box Mark.

You are a Dragon, and will like to stand out. You have to watch being needy and too emotional. You want to fix the world but you cant be all things to all people. With 0 challenges it is important to finish ONE task, and then move to the other. In 2013 you will find yourself with a creative urge. Maybe even to write. A blog like this is a good place to start. I know you think at times you can do it all, but without really focusing, you will tend to spin your wheels. It is important you are aware of this trait in you. Finish one thing completely before moving to the next. You believe in fairness too. Helping someone will make you feel good. Hope this helps. Best to you.

  37. Mark – Draft Brittany Griner in NBA draft. That will give you time to create a Dallas WNBA team and trade Griner from Mavs to the new Dallas WNBA team. Griner will dominate in the WNBA and could become the “Michael Jordan” of the WNBA.. You should create a Dallas WNBA team to show your wife, daughters and all of the other women in your life that you truly believe in creating opportunities for women.
Don’t look as a WNBA team as a business that must be successful. Treat it as an act of charity/philanthropy that Bill Gates and Warren Buffet are promoting among fellow billionaires. .Know going in that you will lose money, at least in the first 5 or so years. Look at it as a tax deduction which it would be. There are more ways to measure success than by profits. Your success in the WNBA would be almost guaranteed in that you would raise the stature of the WNBA and show how valuable women role models are to young girls, not just in the US but worldwide. You could work toward getting women’s basketball made an Olympic sport and create a women’s “Dream Team”.

  40. as a person who is genuinely a student of astrology, numerology, and all that stuff, i think this email does a disservice to the discipline. it is not as simple as saying “11 = championship”. numerology and all that stuff reveal more about one’s psychology and motivations, not about fated events (though if you understand one’s psychology, you can get a clue of what type of events may be likely). anyway, i only make this comment to offer some defense of numerology and other similar disciplines so that readers at least have a fuller perspective from which they can make their evaluation.
