My 1999 Speeches… some good, some smart, some not so smart

I had a couple reasons to go back and look at some old presentations and speechs I gave during the Broadcast.com and my few Yahoo days. I was curious to see if anything i predictedended up happening, and how off i was on everything else.

It was kind of interesting, and even refreshing in some cases. Rather than rehash them all, i decided to take advantage of my buddies over at Box.net, with whom I back up my life, and just let them host the files and let you download them.

I doubt they will be as entertaining to others as they were to me, but heck, you never know. Flashbacks can be fun

  1. Just goes to show that first mover advantage is nonsense. That’s an important angle for all entrepreneurs to realize. Of course, the value and sales execution still have to be there or it won’t matter…but worth noting that it’s all a cycle.

    Thanks for sharing that. I especially liked the slide from the etv.ppt about how most of the winners in the tech revolution either didn’t exist or were late to the game. Just goes to show that first mover advantage is nonsense. That’s an important angle for all entrepreneurs to realize. Of course, the value and sales execution still have to be there or it won’t matter…but worth noting that it’s all a cycle.

  15. try to find your audio/video files of interviews from back then especially on cnbc. That’s the ones i’d like to see. What a time.(you know…the ones when maria was still wearing a cheerleader outfit with pompoms, and remember when koogle from yhoo wore only black and also all the interviews with cmgi ceo etc. did he make it out alive?)

  27. You could convert the powerpoints to OPML (note you can do this at OPMLWorkstation (www.opmlworkstation.com). Then perhaps create a OPML Index file that categorizes and points to them. People can then browse your Powerpoints without having to download all of them…

    Now that would be a shocking (yet accurate) prediction for back then!

    Back to the market/broadcast.com/internet. Funny how people (who post on this blog especially) call Mark Cuban “Lucky”… anyone who thinks Mark was lucky probably needs to read Napoleon Hill’s “Think and Grow Rich”… then follow the instructions to become “lucky”..
